Today we will drive to Fes going by Rabat and Meknes. We will visit important sights in those cities and in addition the Roman ruins. Then we continue to Fes where we’ll arrive in the evening and here we stay overnight in a traditional Moroccan riad.
In the morning we will be visiting the medina (the old city) and its alleys. It includes visiting the Jewish Quarter and the Royal Palace, which is the biggest one in the country. At that point we will visit the well-known tanneries and the Quarraouine mosque – the first university in the world. After lunch, we will enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the city and you will have free program. We stay overnight in local hotel in Fes.
Today we’ll drive towards Ifrane – known as “the Switzerland of Morocco. We will stop at Azrou, a Berber town amidst the celebrated cedar forest. Lunch will be in Midelt in a conventional Moroccan restaurant, at that point we’ll go through the Tizi Ntalghamt pass and along the glorious Ziz Gorges carved through volcanic rock and along the awesome Ziz Valley, you’ll pause for panoramic views. We’ll drive through Berber towns to Erfoud and after that Rissani, lastly we reach Merzouga. Here we stay in local lodging near the dunes.
Today on this Casablanca Desert Tour, we’ll roam in the Sahara region going first to visit the Gnawa people in town Khamlia. We can meet Nomad families who are living in Berber tents. We will also visit the old city of Rissani, the establishment of the Alaouite dynasty – the present ruling royal family in Morocco. Here you’ll stroll through the souk and later we will drive back to the town of Merzouga, from where you will ride camel into the Sahara desert. The camel ride takes an hour and half to reach the desert camp. Here we will spend the night amidst the sand ridges. You will appreciate the nightfall and dinner will be served at the camp with Berber music around the campfire.
Our camel guide will wake you up in the very early morning to watch the dawn, and then we’ll ride camel back to the town of Merzouga. After breakfast and shower in the lodging, we’ll leave for Rissani, Tinghir and Todra gorges – the most astounding, the narrowest canyon in Morocco. After lunch in the core of the canyon we’ll drive through the Dades Valley. Finally we remain overnight in a traditional hotel with supper and breakfast.
After breakfast we’ll drive through the Dades Valley to Kalaat Mgouna and Ouarzazate. The road through Dades Valley is the way for the thousand Kasbahs – giving various chances to take some of your best photographic shots of the tour. We’ll stop at Kalaat Mgouna, “the rose city”. Our excursion proceeds to Marrakech going by Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the biggest Kasbah in Morocco. The Kasbah was constructed by Et Hami El Glaoui, one of the last Berber chieftains in the eighteenth century, now it is a place of numerous Glaoui people. We will pass Tizi n’tichka Pass (2260m) over the High Atlas Mountains. After we reach Marrakech, our Casablanca Desert Tour ends up.
